Thousands of donations made via online tribute pages will be used to support people in the local area who are facing complex life-limiting or terminal illnesses.
The tribute pages, which are hosted by the online donation platform MuchLoved, have been created by families who have entrusted the funeral of their loved ones to Torbay & District Funeral Service.
The pages allow families and friends to celebrate the life of the person they have lost through the sharing of stories, photos, music and videos, and can be used to raise funds for charitable causes in honour of the person they wish to remember.
Over the past year, local families who have participated in the service have raised £75,569 through 1,416 online donations for Rowcroft Hospice.
These funds will play a key role in the continuation of a range of vital end-of-life services offered by the hospice to adults and their loved ones in South Devon who are living with life-limiting illnesses.
The independent charity, Rowcroft Hospice, has an Inpatient Unit on Avenue Road, Torquay, but 80% of its patients are cared for in their own homes or care homes across 300 square miles of South Devon. The hospice provides holistic care that includes specialist nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, complementary therapy, spiritual care, music therapy and bereavement support.
