Funeral Director Sarah Lockton recently received a hand delivered certificate for her help in raising £3360 for the purple poppy appeal, the highest amount in any village in the UK. In 2019 the village of Cockington become the first in Britain to hold a Purple Poppy Day in remembrance of animals lost in war.
K&H Carriages of Cockington work tirelessly on the appeal, assisted by Torbay & District Funeral Service with a window display and the sale of poppies, badges, ceramic and knitted poppies all hand made by the locals of Cockington.
Annie the horse has become the first equine ambassador for the purple poppy appeal in the UK. She is owned and worked by K&H Carriages of Cockington. A national memorial has been unveiled in Ascot.
